Breathing tube removal
The breathing tube came out finally saturday but unfortunately mom also pulled out her feeding tube. She's getting fed up with the guinea pig status. However that means she can't eat until a new tube is placed. Her throat is far too swollen to eat for a while. While she's not happy about having that tube replaced she is hungry. They tried to replace it Sunday. But everything was too swollen which is a choking hazzard and it will have to be redone using a radiologist. She begged me Saturday to take her arm out of the restraints and I almost did until I heard what she'd done.
Sunday mom developed a bit of dementia. She thinks she's at a hotel and wants her clothes and cell phone. She also said the college kids hanging out in the hall kept her up all night. This is a normal reaction to medication withdrawal.
She also thinks she's going home but that's not going to happen. She wanted me to take her to my house for the Super Bowl and then bring her back.
She is on an oxygen mask and can talk in a raspy low voice, sounds a bit like a smoker but she has been told to not talk as it does not assist in the healing of her throat from the breathing tube damage. So if you see her, please encourage her to heal and keep the oxygen mask on and keep quiet.
Will report more when I see her today. Sorry for the reporting delay. Didn't keep up this weekend.
